Keeping up with George
Last December, George the orangutan was adopted by us and our friends, The Big Prawn Company, to reinforce the importance of conservation. As promised, this article is an update on his development at Forest School.
Every morning, the surrogate mothers at Samboja Lestari start the day by waking up the orangutans and taking them to Forest School. George is always eager and even leads the way, often leaving the surrogate mothers and his friends to play catch up!
George usually stops en-route to eat the different kinds of forest fruits he finds. After arriving at school, George likes to wander off to explore deep into the forest, swinging on lianas and walking along the ground when there’s no lianas to grab.
George is often the last to return from Forest School in the afternoon. He really loves exploring and eating the fruits he finds or offered to him by the surrogate mothers.

George will grab as much fruit as he can, then carry it off to enjoy alone and uninterrupted under a tree. No wonder he is getting bigger! George also loves to wrestle with his friends, especially with his bestie, Sergei. The two spend a great deal of time playing together.
Day by day, George is becoming more independent and limiting the time he spends in the presence of our surrogate mothers. We’re all delighted to see how well George is progressing!
The importance of the Borneo Orangutan Sanctuary Foundation
This adoption story reinforces the importance of BOSF and the important work they do:
George and The Big & Happy Collaboration
The sole purpose for this collaboration was to generate awareness to The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation and the work that they do. By adopting George, both The Big Prawn Co. and The Happy Prawn Co. are showing how serious this issue is and how adoptions and support goes a long way. Just like them, we have hope that the orangutans would no longer be critically endangered and with your help, we can strive to achieve that. The video below depicts their 12 million year journey, which hopefully can be carried through young oranguans like George, for many years to come.

Highly descriptive blog, I loved that a lot.
Will there be a part 2?
Hi Royce, Thank you for your comment! There will be, especially as we navigate out of the covid-climate.
